Why an Alternate Reality Game?

Alternate Reality Gaming is, according to CNET, "...an obsession-inspiring genre that blends real-life treasure hunting, interactive storytelling, video games and online community...”

From the beginning of our research into ARG, the above quote has struck a chord with us. The idea that a game can become compulsive to the point of obsession is something that we aspire to create, and thus the element of game interactivity held vital importance.

The blending of real and online world scenarios in game play is exactly the situation we aspire to achieve. The notion of treasure-hunting will bring our players back to the innocence of childhood, joining the dots and piecing together clues to make the jigsaw whole again.

We want the user to experience this feeling of being detective-like.  They as a team must collaborate and solve clue after clue on an expansive treasure hunt. The use of real-world activities helps to achieve the blurring of the fiction/non-fiction line which we aim to make as vague as possible.

This is harking back to the ARG mantra 'This is not a game' where players should question what is real or not real at every point.
